I've been remiss in keeping you all up to date on the status of the egg-laying and so forth. Joan started laying several weeks ago, and we've had a terrible time trying to tell her eggs apart from Liza's because they are about the same size and because it turns out Joan lays speckled eggs (we confirmed this by stalking her in the nest box one afternoon), while Liza lays smooth brown eggs (even though she's supposed to lay blue or green ones).
But today Carole laid her first egg, and I don't think we will have the same trouble.
From the left: Liza, Joan, and Carole.
Carole's egg is so large it doesn't really fit in our egg carton (saved from some large eggs from the store). A big egg from a big chicken.
Wow. The size difference is impressive!
It does give you some idea why it took her so long to start laying.
