Quite Probably Another Nerdy Victory

It took a while, but I managed to get a couple of MovableType plugins -- MTAmazon and BookQueue -- and and running on this installation. So now, with a small amount of tweaking, I can maintain a list of books on queue on my bookshelves or in my mind.

This is far more interesting to me than to any of you, because I was looking for a way to flag books as "I want to read this" short of my current method (laying them on their sides on the shelves, which does not work for books I don't own). But now you can all (erm, all three of you) have a view into my book-mind. Also, you can see how slowly I read when I'm trying to teach myself abstract math.

All I need to do now is extend BookQueue to include a comments area, so I can write little notes to myself about why I was interested in reading or re-reading a particular book, and also a flag for "owned" so I can remember whether I've bought a book I was interested in. I'd also like to be able to sort by author name or genre, but that's sort of unimportant if I've got everything else.

Wow, I love the BookQueue. I need one of those. How long do you think it will take you to get through all the books on your list?

btw, I scrolled down the entire list quickly and I did a double take when

The Joy of Writing Sex: A Guide for Fiction Writers

appeared to me as "A Guide for Friction Writers".

:-)

BookQueue is great, as is MovableType. I've been very happy with it since I installed it, although it has twice caused other people's incredibly delicate Perl scripts to keel over dead. That's what they get for making non-standard Perl installations, I say.

As for my leetle list, I'll probably be through the books on the list that I own in the next month, unless I get sidetracked (by, um, the stack of 12 books I picked up at the thrift store today). A lot of those are books I heard about from somebody and want to look into, rather than books actually sitting around waiting to be read.

I actually bought Joy of Writing Sex because I also thought it said "friction" and I thought it was funny. Then it turned out that not only do I have a filthy mind, but it's a good book. Good to see I'm in good company. :)
